Saving the Planet Earth.

Posted by Nikita at 8:54 PM
This is not earth hour in case you think I am promoting it. But of course it has something to do with it. I just wanted to share a few tricks to save energy. These are the few little things I practiced at home to conserve energy. I am sure we hear it often on the radio how the DJ rant about lack of water and energy resources globally so we must strictly try to conserve whatever resources we still have or else we gonna end up trying to build "dam" that forced natives to relocate to some areas leaving their much loved lands that bear so much of memories.

Now lets get down to business.

1) First of all start preparing your dinner and take your shower before it is pitch black somewhere between 5.00 pm to 6. 00pm. The alternative is to skip dinner? ;) well, if you had a heavy lunch you can opt for fruits for dinner. No? The good eating habit is to eat before 7.00 pm so I think preparing dinner as early as possible isn't a bad idea at all. Of course if you consider the fact that you should be asleep at 9.00 pm to 10.00 pm or had a working time from 7.30 am to 4.30 pm. But if you are not an early riser than you can skip this.

2) Instead of using washing machine consider the old way of handwashing. It actually helps to get rids of stains better than using the machine. Right? My take is to only use the spinner.

3) Instead of using rice cooker that used electricity  use the traditional rice cooker that used gas. The same goes for boiling water.

4) I was once informed by a nutritionist that bathing using the water in normal temperature (not too cold, if you live in tropical country) is far more beneficial than using warm or hot water. Why? If you use warm water once you finish bathing the body starts to get hungry? Maybe because once you finish bathing the real temperature sinks in and you starts shivering generating alot more heat than necessary so your body metabolized more  fats to produce energy that would trigger hunger pang.  In contrary, if you use normal temperature once you finish bathing the body doesn't react the same way. It stays normal. I suspect it generated heat but it rises steadily to the real temperature that only met the necessary need to keep the body warm. I am actually referring to the use of water heater. It can be quite costly to use it.

5) Stop watching TV or limit time to watch TV. You can start a hobby that don't require much energy like reading and knitting? ;)

6) Don't stay up late. You know the body will have a nice rest if you sleep early.

7) Try not to switch on electricity at too many rooms at the same time. If you are in the bedroom, switch off the electricity in the living room.

8) And this is much mentioned, try to allocate one day in a week to iron whatever shirts or pants that needed some ironing or alternatively don't buy clothes that need ironing. But well, I can't seems to really use this one but its a good reminder as a good practice.

9) No matter how tempting it is to install an air conditioner, it is still far more better energy wise to use multiple fans. Not an option? Its okay. Just saying.

10) When the weather is nice go out and play. You can leave home for a while to conserve energy.

Those are the little things that I think can be of great significance in the long run.

What do you think?
